F-35 - The Joint Strike Fighter
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is designed for
use by the Air Force, Navy and Marines in the US, and by the
defense forces of partner countries. The prime contractor
for the aircraft is Lockheed, with engines supplied by Pratt
&Whitney and GE, and airframe and engine components supplied
by companies around the world. It is designed as a “green”
aircraft, avoiding the use of materials and coatings that
pose problems for human health or the environment.
Rowan acts as an on-demand consultant to the
ESOH IPT and Lockheed, providing assistance and analysis in
the area of clean coatings and surface treatments:
-
Technology analyses of options for
replacement of restricted materials
-
Roadmapping of all the clean coatings
development activity in DoD and elsewhere relevant to
the F-35
-
A Coatings Database of F-35 coating
options
-
Assistance with management of
international projects to develop better alternatives or
qualify clean materials
-
Set up and manage the team’s coatings and
materials information website. The JSF coatings and
materials information website is a resource available
only to the JSF team government members and contractors
around the world.
