Roadmapping
tool
Roadmaps are meant to answer the question
“How do we get where we want to go from here?” Roadmaps are
used for a variety of purposes:
-
To decide which technologies should be
pursued for a new weapons system
-
To decide which technologies should be
adopted for an existing weapons system – to improve
performance, reduce environmental cost, etc.
-
To decide which proposed projects one
should fund
-
As a tool to brief up and down the chain
of command and between organizations
In considering the needs for Roadmapping we
have concluded that a Roadmapping method should be able to
do all of these things. In order to make a Roadmap flexible
and briefable we have developed a method based on Microsoft
Powerpoint, but integrated with an Excel spreadsheet for
rating projects and proposals.

Roadmapping features:
-
Powerpoint-based so it can be briefed
easily
-
Interactive to permit any part of the
Roadmap to be examined or briefed at any level of
detail, from the overall map to the details of the
individual projects
-
Integrated with spreadsheets to evaluate
technology capabilities and gaps and to evaluate and
rank proposed projects
-
Dual levels of detail for Engineers and
Project Managers with the same set of data.
For use in proprietary or classified
projects, an empty Roadmap can be set up and provided to the
user to be populated at their own site. |
